In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Portraits
Because this chapter in life deserves its own documented moment in time.
Lifestyle baby photos are all about being relaxed at home. You probably are wondering how can you prepare your home and your family for your session. It’s not as hard as it sounds I promise! I’m going to break things down for you in this simple guide.

Why Take Lifestyle Newborn Photos?
Because somehow… they change overnight and no one warned you it would feel like this.
This stage is a blur—in the best and most exhausting way—and lifestyle newborn photos are how you hold onto it. Not the perfectly posed, Pinterest version… but your version. The snuggles on the couch, the way they curl into you, the little in-between moments you don’t realize you’ll miss yet.
This isn’t about putting your tiny human in a basket and calling it a day. It’s about capturing what life actually looks like right now—the chaos, the calm, the love, all of it. So when you’re out of the newborn fog, you have something real to come back to.

Best Time To Schedule.
Short answer: sooner than you think, but with zero pressure. I know how special and sacred the newborn bubble can be.
I usually recommend anywhere from birth to around 8 weeks old. This is that sweet spot where baby is still extra snuggly, sleepy, and very go-with-the-flow (we love that for us).
Once you get past the 10-ish week mark, they’re way more alert, stretching out, and generally less interested in being wrapped up like a cozy little burrito. Which is adorable… just a different vibe.
But truly—there’s no “too late.” We just lean into whatever stage they’re in and document it as it is..

Managing Expectations.
Before your session, I always recommend taking a peek at my past work so you can get a feel for how I shoot—very go-with-the-flow, documentary, and focused on real moments over perfection.
Pinterest is fun (I get it, I live there too), but it’s important to remember…your baby is their own little human with their own moods, preferences, and strong opinions already. Some things you see online just… might not be their vibe. And that’s okay.
This isn’t about recreating someone else’s photos. It’s about capturing your baby, your season, exactly as it is. The magic is in the real stuff anyway.

Styling
Bring the cute stuff!! Hats, headbands, bowties, blankets, baskets, outfits, all of it—I’m here for the vibes.
I don’t provide props myself, so anything you’d love included, just bring along. Think pieces that feel like your family, cozy, simple, meaningful, or even a little sentimental.
That said, don’t stress. Sometimes the best photos are the simplest ones—baby + you + good light. Everything else is just a bonus ✨

Before I arrive
Once we lock in your date and time (I usually aim for around midday for that dreamy natural light), I’ll have you pick 1–2 spots in your home where you’d love photos to happen. Think: master bedroom, living room, nursery, a loft space or that one random spare room that gets the best light in the house. Additionally we can always do outside if there are special spots you enjoy.
Before I get there, go ahead and open all blinds and curtains so we can see what we’re working with. And let me say this louder for the people in the back—do not deep clean your house for me. Please. I’m a mom. I get it. My home will never be “clean” again. I will likely be showing up in yoga pants with coffee in hand.
That said, a little decluttering in the areas we’re shooting (counters, floors, nightstands) goes a long way. Less stuff = more focus on you and your baby.
If older kiddos are joining in, just give me a heads up! I like to avoid the “on the verge of a meltdown because it’s nap time” window whenever possible. I’ll always do my best to be flexible so we can work around your real-life schedule.

What To Wear
Honestly, this is totally up to you. No rules, no pressure. Ive seen it all from jean shorts and a t-shirt, to perfectly coordinated outfits.
I usually tell moms to pick their outfit first and then build everyone else around that. The little ones are easy… and half the time they’re just out here living their best naked life anyway.
Go for something comfortable, casual, and a little flowy—nothing that feels tight or restrictive on your freshly postpartum body. The goal is to feel like you, just a slightly more put-together version.
If you’re unsure, you can’t go wrong with soft tones, simple textures, and pieces that move a bit. A light sweater or cardigan is always a win too—it adds some dimension and gives you something cozy to wrap up in (baby included).
Most important rule: if you feel good in it, it’ll photograph beautifully 🤍
The photos from our session will one day trigger those hazy memories from the first few weeks
TIPS FOR ULTIMATE SUCCESS AND A HAPPY BABY
1. Stimulate & try to keep baby awake for the hour or two before I arrive. This helps make babe extra sleepy for the session when we start shooting. When baby can get in a deeper sleep, it makes posing & going from one set to another easier. A warm bath is also a great way to do this as well as talking & interacting with baby while keeping them in just their diaper.
2. Feed baby within 15-30 minutes of my arrival or right after I arrive. A full belly makes for a happy, sleepy baby. Timing with this is going to be dependent on your baby as every baby is different. Some take longer to eat. As I am setting up my bedding and items I use, this can be a great time to feed.
3.Right before the session, change your baby into a clean diaper and swaddle them. Since most photographers prefer babies to be naked during their session, undressing them beforehand is a timesaver. It also means you won’t disrupt their sleep cycle by trying to get their onesie off. A loose diaper is best because it will avoid creating diaper marks around their waist.
4. Baby's like to be warm. I recommend having the heat cranked up or if you have a space heater, have that plugged in and ready to go. I can always bring a room heater if you need me to. I will also bring a heating pad for underneath baby but having the room warmer helps them stay asleep.
5. If there are any outfits or props you would like to have, have those out and ready to roll. As well as if there are any special blankets, hats or stuffed animals you want in these photos have those out and ready.
6. When baby needs a break, we’ll take a break. Don’t stress if they get fussy. It is all part of the process. If they need to stop to eat or have a diaper changed, we most definitely will! Most babies need to eat at least once during their session. It’s hard work looking that cute.
