Maternity Sessions

For those in-between seasons you’ll wish you could relive

Because this chapter in life deserves its own documented moment in time.

Lifestyle baby photos are all about being relaxed at home. You probably are wondering how can you prepare your home and your family for your session. It’s not as hard as it sounds I promise! I’m going to break things down for you in this simple guide.

  • Why Take Maternity Photos?

Because this version of you… only exists for a minute.

It’s such a weird, beautiful, emotional in-between—where everything is about to change, but hasn’t yet. And while it might not always feel glamorous (hi swollen ankles + snacks every 20 minutes), there is something really powerful about documenting this season.

This isn’t about stiff poses or pretending you feel like a glowing goddess 24/7 (unless you do—then go off). It’s about capturing you as you are right now. The anticipation, the quiet moments, the connection, the “holy sh*t we’re about to have a baby” energy.

Future you will eat this up.

  • Best Time To Schedule.

The sweet spot is typically between 28–34 weeks.

At this point, you’ve got a beautiful, noticeable bump—but you’re (hopefully) still feeling somewhat comfortable, not swollen yet and able to move around without wanting to fight someone.

After that, we’re entering the “I’m tired, everything hurts, and I just want this baby out” era… which is valid, but maybe not ideal for a full session.

That said—there are no hard rules. We work with your body, your energy, and your timeline.

  • Managing Expectations.

Before your session, I always recommend creeping through my past work so you can get a feel for how I shoot—very candid, documentary, and focused on connection over perfection.

Pinterest is fun. I support it. But also—your body, your relationship, and this season are uniquely yours. Some poses or ideas online might not feel natural for you, and that’s completely okay.

This isn’t about recreating someone else’s maternity shoot. It’s about documenting your experience in a way that actually feels like you.

The best photos always come from real moments anyway.

  • Styling

Bring the outfits. Bring the drama. Bring the cozy. I’m here for all of it.

Flowy long dresses, fitted pieces that show off the bump, oversized sweaters, your partner’s button-down—whatever feels like you right now.

I don’t provide wardrobe, so anything you want included, just bring along. Neutrals, soft tones, and textures always photograph beautifully, but honestly—confidence > everything.

    Bare belly? Yes!

    Layers? Also yes.

My only recommendation is avoiding short dresses as they cut off length is not always the most flattering when balancing a new bump.

  • Colorado Maternity Photo Locations

One of the best parts about maternity photography in Colorado? The options are unreal and truly endless!

    You can choose:

In-home maternity photos (cozy, intimate, documentary-style)

Mountain maternity sessions (Rocky Mountain views, alpine lakes, open trails)

Open fields + nature locations (soft light, neutral tones, timeless feel)

Studio maternity sessions (minimal, clean, focused on you)

If you’re not sure where to start, I’ll help guide you based on your vision, comfort level, and the kind of photos you’re drawn to.

The photos from your maternity session will one day bring you right back to this in-between season—the quiet anticipation, the little kicks, the feeling of everything about to change.

TIPS FOR A SMOOTH, EASY MATERNITY SESSION

  • Take it easy beforehand
This is not the day to overbook yourself or run errands all morning. Give yourself time to slow down, get ready without rushing, and actually enjoy the process. Calm energy = better photos, always.

  • Eat something + stay hydrated
I know this sounds obvious, but truly—don’t show up hangry. Bring snacks, drink water, and keep your energy up, especially if we’re shooting outdoors or walking a bit.

  • Plan outfits ahead of time
Try everything on before the day of (trust me on this). Make sure you feel comfortable, confident, and not like you’re fighting your outfit. If you’re bringing multiple options, have them ready to go so we can easily swap.

  • Give yourself extra time to get ready
Hair not cooperating? Makeup taking longer than expected? Totally normal. Build in buffer time so you’re not stressed walking into your session. Wear loose clothing to avoid clothing lines/imprints on your belly if you plan on showing it during the shoot.

  • Bring layers (Colorado things)
Weather here loves to keep us on our toes. A cozy sweater, shawl, or jacket not only keeps you warm but also adds variety and movement to your photos.

  • Include your partner (or don’t—your call)
If your partner is joining, keep their outfit simple and complementary. And don’t worry—I’ll guide them too. No one is getting left awkwardly standing there wondering what to do with their hands.

  • Let go of “perfect”
You don’t need to pose perfectly or know what you’re doing—that’s my job. The best photos happen when you relax into the moment, move naturally, and just be present.

  • Trust the process
We’ll take breaks, adjust as needed, and go at your pace. Whether you’re feeling amazing or a little uncomfortable that day—we’ll work with it. There’s no pressure to perform here.
